Short Poems

Better Revolt

If birth has no ending
And death has no beginning,
Can we
The better revolt of joy and reverence
Between us?

Walk

Chewing the flame-leaps of sun in my chest
As I walk aware of the bustle
Of leaves, of sunlight, and
Clouds, the grow of trees, the lives of rocks.

Pyrrhic

Now to throw it on yesterday’s
Mound, raise a stone,
And be done with it.

Fragment

Enjambed on a railroad trestle,
Idle verse, spray-painted, like falling leaves
Forgotten by guitar.

Late Afternoon

The blue sky
And the moon
Are trees with roots.

And yet as it rains
The rubbish of sunset
Is met with the banter of stars.

  1. OMG this is all connected, beautifully and reverently. a rich pageant of verse; I’ve just been reading some zen koans so I was in the right frame of mind for these; no, I can,t pick out a fave: they’re all connected; look forward to having another read when I get back from Fellowship —

  2. Now why can’t people be standing on street corners saying words like these or hand out fliers with the poems on them? Instead, most people have their heads tuned to screens when walking, but I’m not judging them because in some ways I don’t want to bothered and them on screens keeps them away. Anyhoo, that first poem grabbed me in the brain and gut. I think I’ll always remember it, no beginning in death and the lovers working it out? Wonderful. Ok, I’ll stop there because you probably get tired of hearing how great your poems are, but they really are. Your writing impacts me in many ways, one of which is that I read more poetry now. wkkortas had that effect on me too. I think you’ve visited his blog. That made me happy that you guys connected. He likes hockey too. Have a great week!

    1. That’s an awesome thought, people standing on street corners handing out poems. But like you said, more then likely just staring at phones. I’m glad you liked the first poem. I’m glad too that I get to read wkkortas. I believe I first saw him on your blog. So thanks for that. Have a great week too.

    “Pyrrhic

    Beautifully chiselled write.
