Michael over at Raven’s Weald nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award, and though this isn’t my usual thing, I’d like to take this opportunity to first, thank Michael, and second, give a shout out to his fantastic blog. Michael writes intriguing, wonderful short stories, and amazing original poetry. He also gives great advice for upgrading your blog. Seeing that I’m not good at all on the tech stuff, really comes in handy for me. So please check out his blog.

I know I’m not following the guidelines exactly, but part of this is answering some questions Michael asked. So here goes:

What is a weird thought that lives rent-free in your head?

That mirrors are actually windows to another universe exactly synced up to ours, and you are really seeing yourself in the mirror/window, albeit another you in another universe.

What is a completely normal thing that secretly gives you the ick?     

Sugary coffee drinks

What is a skill you’d like to learn?

Wood working. I’d love to be able to make a chair. Just like Ron Swanson.

What is something you’re weirdly good at or goodly weird at?

I’m not really sure how to answer this. Could long meandering walks be something you’re good at? I recently took a long walk with my son, and we kept coming to a bend in the road, and I said I wanted to know what comes next. He eventually said, won’t this go on forever? I had to concede on this. I have gone on walks I needed to take a bus home, having gone too far.

What I think I’m weirdly bad at is leaving comments on WordPress. So if my comments are lame, I’m sorry!

Do you think our dreams have hidden meanings?

Strangely I don’t. But our interpretations of them, yes. Lots of hidden meanings.

If you could live in any time period, when do you think you might fit in better than you fit now? Or feel better about?

Ancient Greece. Or the 70’s.

What is your super-secret superpower that no one suspects you have?

Anxiety and panic attacks. I have those down. The same way Bukowski has masted the hangover.

Cook me a meal. What am I being served?

Popcorn. I have a whole system down. Involving ghee. It’s damn good.

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever done?

I’ll throw this out there, I took a bunch of LSD and took a bus from Mexico City to Chicago. It took two days to get to Chicago.

Has anyone ever dared you lick a pole in the middle of winter? Would you? If you did, what happened?

This is really funny. But I’m not sure I’ve ever done that.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

    1. At this point I buy the ghee. But I’ve watched some videos on how to make it. Doesn’t seem too difficult, even for someone like me who has not the best cooking skills.

      1. I made it long long ago. If I recall correctly, you gently melt and skim the froth off. That’s it, clarified butter. I think it works better with unsalted, but it was so long ago I wouldn’t trust anything I had to say about it aside from it being pretty easy.

      2. I think that’s how you do it. Which I really should be attempting. Buying ghee ain’t cheap. But you gotta have popcorn on Friday night movie night.

Hey, congratulations Bob. never turn down an award i say. i won a free throw shooting contest in grade school and they gave me a trophy and then i went to the shopping mall and left it somewhere. it’s probably in a junkyard now. that was always fun in the 70’s (late 70’s) to go to the mall and look at records and at the merle harmon’s fan fare sports apparel.

    you mentioned Zen and archery. that’s interesting because my friend jeff just last night suggested via email that i take up archery in my basement. i guess he was just kidding because my basement is so small, but there are fields and trees. i wonder where i could find a used bow and arrow?

    that LSD bus ride from mexico city to chicago. i have nothing to say. it’s too beautiful to ruin with words. i’ve come to realize that human words are not the perfect way to communicate, just an attempt and sometimes we fail and sometimes we succeed and so goes pain and pleasure. how was the rest of the bus ride?

    Never heard of ghee, but i love popcorn. what does it taste like? Yeh, I’m with you on too much sugar in the coffee. disgusting but i do use a little bit of sugar. seems to take some of the acidity or whatever it’s called. Making chairs and meandering walks. i love that you walked so far that you had to take the bus home…..we had a friend Galen who once fell asleep on the city bus north and wound up on the south side. he wound up playing bass in the band called the hold steady…..big baseball fan galen.

    1. I was born n 74, so don’t have a lot of memories. More of the 80’s memories. Which were wonderful times. I imagine the 70’s were better. I think it’s a great idea you take up archery. I might myself take it up myself too. The bus ride was amazing. I lived off McDonalds pancakes. I wrote this all down, the bus ride, I should go and fix it up and post it. Ghee works great with popcorn. Instead of cooking the popcorn in oil and put butter on afterward (which leaves some kernels soaked in butter, others no butter), you cook the popcorn in ghee, which has a high smoke point, so you get evenly distributed butter. And I use a Whirley Pop. That’s a great story about Galen. Bus rides are amazing.

      1. decades are strange….the way we chop them up into 10 year segments as if all changed from 1979 to 1980. Reminds of when smoking was allowed on airplanes and seat 17 ABC and D allowed smoking, but 18 ABC and D didn’t. Second hand smoke? We’re a funny species.

        i gotta try that ghee because i love popcorn. i learned the other day that popcorn in spanish is palomitas and it’s the same name for dove…i love that because popcorns can look like doves after a joint.

      2. It is funny how we chop up time. I do remember the smoking sections and smoking on a plane. not healthy, but kinda miss those days. That awesome popcorn is palomitas in Spanish. Going to have to look up how that came about.

      5. interesting origins of some french baseball terms…when the Expos were announced as a new baseball team, some new terms had to be invented, but not all of them since baseball has been in montreal since even before 1900.

    1. I use a Whirley Pop. And instead of cooking the kernels in oil. I cook them in ghee, which has a high smoke point, so it won’t burn. This evenly distributes the butter evenly. I also use a stone mortar and pestle to grin up my salt till it’s very fine. This also evenly distributes the salt. It turns out really good for Friday night movie night. I hope I explained that well.

  8. You and I are on the same page with sugary coffee drinks. Popcorn and ghee sounds on point, too. And I love your perception of mirrors. I’ve always thought it was interesting to imagine our thoughts and actions are simultaneously being reflected in multiple other dimensions.
