The Ghosts of Future Stars

Light steadies the ankles. Darkness readies the knees.

Darkness is a box of pins. Light the ghosts of future stars.

Light sounds out words, creates space. Darkness kneads.

Darkness is the immanence of distance and the ongoing retrieval of it.

Light stitches bones into the soul. Light is the darkness when you blink.

The wind is cheap poems through barbwire parasols.

But what are the footfalls of electromagnetic touchdowns?

  1. Oooh, this is a thinker! That killer first line again just gets me. Or first two lines, rather. Light does steady the ankles, darkness does ready the knees! It makes perfect sense.

But my favourite line: “Darkness is the immanence of distance and the ongoing retrieval of it.” – potent.

At first, I thought you meant to write ‘imminence’ but I’ve just learned what immanence means and that of course, makes more sense. Great poem!
