It’s Not So Bad To Fall

We have not fully considered the state of falling. For example,
It matters we are hurtling through space. Possibly, on the eve of everything.
And how the dandelion grows and the how the rooftops chatter
In the rain.
And you fall for this. And I fall for this. Like a finger-painted symphony, blue as a sonnet,
In green socks and cutoff shorts and it’s summer. It’s not so bad to fall.

  1. I was reading the other idea about this guy questioning the existence of God and he concluded that he can’t be sure about anything but himself, that everything is a mirage created by his perceptions, from the sun to a pack of gum, that nothing exists for sure I feel that this poem solves his troubles, that we can fall in love with everything and regardless if it’s real, enjoy the heaven out of it. Funny timing. Yesterday I cut my jeans and made cut-offs, first time in many years I did that. Have a great Sunday!

    1. Thanks Steve. I agree. Enjoy the heaven of it. That’s spot on. I’m glad you made cutoff shorts. There’s something about them, they have a 70’s and 90’s vibe. Enjoy your Sunday as well. Looks like the weather will be nice.

      1. I just finished Don Quixote. And South of the Border, West of the Sun by Haruki Murakami. I started a nonfiction book called, An Immense World by Ed Yong. About how other species use there senses. Seems interesting so far. What are you reading?

      2. Quixote! Excellent!! I would like to try to read it again too. I’m not familiar with the other books. I’ll take a look at all of them and see if I can find them at the library. I’m reading Sandy Koufax: A Lefty’s Legacy by Jane Leavy. It’s not a traditional biography more of a series of stories, anecdotes, and interviews with dozens of people all woven into the current events of that time period – 50’s and 60’s. On deck, I have part one of The Brothers Karamazov. I read it almost 30 years ago and would like to rediscover it.

      3. That sounds like interesting style for a biography. I’m sure there are lots of cool stories. I haven’t read Brothers Karamazov in probably 20 years. That’s a heck of an endeavor. I’d like to try again. Maybe this winter.

      4. I thought the print in Brothers Karamazov was too small. Turns out it’s my eyes not seeing too well so I bought some reading glasses at the pharmacy and what a difference it makes.

  2. I like how reading your poems puts various images in my head. With this one, besides the dandelion and chatty roofs, I thought of jumping. Every jump brings a fall. We may jump for the upward part. But the downward part has to happen. (Or else we head into space without a helmet.) Thanks for reminding us about that falling part. We can be breathless as we wonder if we’re going to land on our feet. If not, we can lie there and appreciate the sky 🌞
