The velocity of a poem-asteroid
Is elliptical alliteration.
In earnest, realizing this is a dream, which side of the moon
Is homework?
Puddles have telekinetic reflections
And connect us to other dimensions.
Furthermore, the séance of computation
Is poetry.
The direction of an asteroid, the linking it with a poem, the merging of math (computation) with telekinetic reflections. You’ve done it Bob, what I love most, the merging of science and paranormal or not necessarily science. It comes through in today’s baseball world in a wonderful debate-filled way….statistics (advanced metrics) versus the eye test of seeing a game for ourselves and making our own conclusions. I think it’s the best of both worlds.
There’s a word in each paragraph that stick out for me- elliptical, homework, connect, computation, all to say that poetry is neither easy to write or understand but god damn, it’s necessary in a world run amok with simple black and white answers.

Thanks Steve! I’m glad you brought up the stats/eye test debate. That’s always fascinated me as well. I’m sure they both have their blind spots, and probably work best when in conjunction. And I agree, poetry is a relief from the black and white answers. Yes, sometimes poetry is hard, as is missing the playoffs for 14 years (I’m looking at you Sabres). But it’s all part of life.

Mariners fans must be getting fed up. They’re the last remaining franchise to never make it to the World Series. They were on a roll earlier this year, but nosedived and just fired their manager. Here’s to the Brewers and Sabres making post seasons runs in 2024 and 2025!

Ugh, I know that feeling of losing. I say the standings, looks like they’ll miss the playoffs again. I’m all in on the Brewers this year!!!!

Yes! It’d be nice to win at least one post season series assuming we don’t go on a horrendous losing streak.

I’ve always been fascinated by puddles, Bob, and their big brothers, ponds; I feel you may be onto something —

Thanks, John. I’m really glad you made the connection to ponds being puddles big brother. I think that is perfect, and I hope to incorporate that someday into a poem.

There’s something wildly intriguing about the imagery and logic of this poem. The second stanza is delightful. It brought a smile to my face. Always a pleasure to experience your poetry, Bob!
