A telescope and daisies and weather reports
And subtitles and because beauty,
And all that you have lost and gained,
You find in everything that part of all of us,
And birds, twigs and space shuttles, trampolines
And bubble wrap, groundwater and dandelion shoots,
And coming home late with the dusk
Still pressed into on your shoulders.
you’ve squidged the whole kit and caboodle in this poem, Bob; it’s all part of the grand design — and what a great ending !

Thanks so much John. Like you said, we both know how much impact a good ending can have. Much appreciated.

Bob, this is another delight. How we imitate birds by flying (with space shuttles and trampolines), but gravity and dusk still press down on us. The beauty and magnificence are in the attempts and successes at flight. Also: your second stanza reminds me of my favorite poem: “maggie and milly and molly and may” by e.e. cummings. Particularly, the last stanza of that poem. Both his stanza and yours are beautiful and magnificent.
Here’s the poem, if you haven’t read it before: https://poets.org/poem/maggie-and-milly-and-molly-and-may

Thanks, Dave!! I’m really glad you shared the e.e. cummings poems with me. It was fantastic. I’m a fan of his, but have not read him in a long time. That’ll change soon. I really enjoyed that poem.

I like what John Malone says about this poem, “you’ve squidged the whole kit and caboodle in this..” So much of what you’ve written here hits me while walking out the door and feeling an autumn-like breeze, a reminder of all that’s happened in the summers of our life, all of it still with us, hopefully not too heavy on the shoulders.

We’re starting to have that first hint of autumn as well. It’s refreshing. But I’m going to miss summer. Though when the leaves change color, I’ll change my mind.
