A walk is a glad
Unfencing of the
Present. The body
Finds it meditative.
Eventually, though, I stop for lunch.
A peanut butter and jelly
Sandwich and an apple.
I sit on some neglected ledge
Not far from the railroad tracks.
The posture of electric towers
Is impressive as I straighten
By back.
In the fields that run along the
Railroad tracks, that’s where
I often walk, I like the belated
Graffiti and all kinds of flowers
And insects, the corrugated metal
Fencing of the junkyard,
On which is spray painted:
"A spaceship
Like a hiccup
Lost of home"
&
"A passing moment
Not intended as far as I know of anything
At all. The rest I leave to the weather"
At the end of the path I am walking on is a
Clearing, where last year someone burned a car,
Leaving its charred remains.
From here I turn back and head home.
Wonderful ♥️

Ahhhhh, beautiful work Bob. You put the WALK into walk, such an underrated pastime inspiring….well, all that you’ve relayed to us through poetry here. I like that the first line hits us with a BANG – unfencing the present….ain’t that some beautiful truth!

Thanks Steve! I was out walking this morning. Buds are starting to show on trees and the first green shots in the ground. Can’t wait for the warm weather.

YES!!!!!! Those buds on branches exploding somehow into green leaves and the shots on the ground. The only problem I have with spring and summer is that it turns my girlfriend into an exercise freak….biking, walking, swimming and I know it’s good for me, but so hard to get started. My inclination is to sit on my ass, eat edibles, drink whisky and beer, write, watch baseball, and then do it all over again. But I’ll be on the bike soon and my swim trunks are ready. Enjoy what’s left of this weekend.

Thanks John. There’s nothing like getting in a good walk to clear one’s head and get some exercise. And hoping a train passes while I’m out.

I’m with you on long walks; I often walk along the lake or the esplanade of a beach; to walk beside a railway rack would be great; I love trains too —

You make me want to walk by an abandoned rail track… that said will I cancel myself if I say I don’t like PBJ…maybe a different sandwich!! 🙂

Oh no, you don’t like PBJ! Just kidding. There’s a lot of great sandwiches. I like a peanut putter, spinach, and sprout sandwich.
