Lines Written in Spring

Bob, , , 
I prefer the scriptures of the dandelion.   
The weight of happenstance. 

Imaginary bouquets and
The fatigued folding chairs
At Prometheus’s funerals.

A solemn oath whispered into the large
Hole made by a construction crew.
 
There is a wild in the unbathed moon.
Said the universe, said the rain.

A light drizzle in a dream.
The streetlights hover without their stems.

The names of each thing have vanished.
Leaving a newfound hunger for stars.

I’m flipping in the best of ways over these lines, such potent reminders of things I might miss, things I do miss when saddled with doubt and misery and all that while meanwhile you have written awaits our eyes and nose and ears and that delicious, hopeful ending – “newfound hunger for the stars.” I’ve never wanted to be an astronaut but I’m now reconsidering!

    1. Much appreciated Steve. I get the same way, all these doubts. In a lot of ways writing is the foil to that. After we sail the Great Lakes, maybe we should work on getting to the moon.

      1. I tend to like the Sun Ra chants more than the wild sax and I guess some sort of coherent confusion or fusion, but this one I love and seems like a good preparation for our trip to the moon which hopefully we can launch from he Great Lakes raft.

I was watching a live set in the KEXP studio Seattle of Levitation Room play and they shared an anecdote of seeing a UFO in New Mexico and they were totally serious in their telling, great details of a giant tambourine with lights all around, it moving and then stopping and so on and the cute little interviewee named DJ Jewel asked “if you guys were ever to meet extra terrestrials and they asked you to share music with them, what music would you share?” The bass player immediately said “Sun Ra” and then the lead singer added “that they probably already know Sun Ra”

      4. Wow. That’s a great story. I’ll be watching that later. I’ve seen other performances on KEXP. And usually enjoy them. But a UFO story, I’m definitely gotta see that.
