Free Spirit:
Inwardness has distance, too.
And where the spirit turns outward
There is a rolling stone to mark
Its place.
This Can Be Confirmed:
Last night’s dream coughed up
Cliffs and reaffirmed the existence
Of bottomless pits, yet
You become a bird in the air,
The jumping and dancing
Inherent in the stars.
Variables:
It is those who gather lots of room
For lots of meanings
Reeling with all kinds of realities
And who make the most of it
Silhouettes are jigsaw pieces
To one big, puzzling dream
“You become a bird in the air,
The jumping and dancing
Inherent in the stars.”
Powerful stuff right here.

those last two lines are stunning, Bob ; I’ll never look at silhouetted in the same way again — and isn’t that what the best art does: challenges our perspectives !

Thanks so much John!! I agree, art challenges our perceptions!

I love your three poem posts like win, place, show. They used to have a horse racing place here in Montreal but it closed down…..a few years back I walked around there….abandoned, memorable.
Anyway, as always, I’m left with a sense of wonder after reading your words like just when I think there might be an answer to a question that has no answer, you hit us with “one puzzling dream”

Thanks Steve. I haven’t been to a horse race since I was a kid. I wonder if they’re still around here? And those puzzling dreams don’t cough up straight forward answers.

We got the Formula 1 Grand Prix going on in Montreal this weekend. It’s a hoot every year, tons of celebrations and that sound of acceleration all over the place.

Thanks. I won’t be going to the race, but just walking around and all the fever and noise changes the landscape, for two days anyway, but this town has so many music festivals in summer. I try to get to some of them, just walk around and take in a free show. The Sun Ra Arkestra is scheduled to be here for the Jazz Festival. Hoping to check that out.

I’ve heard Montreal closes a lot of its street to cars. And creates spaces for people to just walk around.

Yes, there are a bunch of streets like that. Saturday night I was walking on one of them, through the crowds, live music and at the horizon line in the distance, in the old port of Montreal was a lit up ferris wheel, totally cool image. I wish I would had a camera or my phone with me.

That’s great you go walking without your phone.

Once in a while I carry my phone and play music out loud. I have no earphones. It’s like having an old boom box from the 80’s. I almost always play j-dilla beats ad nto too loud to bother people. I always play the long versions of his beats. They’re like hip hop minimalism and I love minimalism like Philip Glass and Steven Reich and those guys. Great for walking, but yeh, I almost never carry my phone. I force myself to kind of broadcast the scene in my head, both sights and sounds. But here’s the latest j-dilla beat that has me in its grip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2thV7KaOy6k

I like minimalism too. Glass and Reich. Thanks for sharing the J-Dilla beats. I just checked the link you sent. Definitely up my alley.

It seems almost endless the amount of J-Dilla extended beats fans have created. Enjoy.

Oh so good…loved them all Bob… they seem connected..
If I could make a cento from your three poems it would be:
“Inwardness has distance / You become a bird in the air / Reeling with all kinds of realities”.

Wonderful text, Bob! I definitely can relate to this as this is quite often the state I am in when painting 🙏🎶☀️
