Poem

On Tuesday
I went to the florist
And asked for a sandwich
And enjoyed a fanzine
On dual star systems
Because the drive-in
Is popular

The renegade robin
Steals powerlines
Eats electricity on toast

Somehow this all fits like a rain puddle
Early in spring
Like a wingspan
Like daisies and isosceles

At home without nomenclature
With fins like the cinema
And the gospel of being outside

  1. You know what’s wild about this pom is how much unexpectedness there is, from sandwich requests at the florist to the renegade robin eating electricity on toast and then you set us free at the end like an arrow released from a bow = “And the gospel of being outside.”

    1. Thanks Steve. Just kinda of had fun with this one. I think it would be interesting to expand on this, make a whole day of strange and unexpected turns. I did spend most of the day outside, I’m digging a garden path.

      1. I don’t know much about gardening, but I hear growing vegetables is really tough. No guarantees. Lots of respect for farmers perseverance and I don’t think they make much money either.

      2. Total sanctuaries, those nature spots within a city and then back into the traffic and people talk and then back in the nature. We have one here between two busy streets. Tons of trees. Too many squirrels, but silent, the cars can’t be heard. I’m gonna try and go there next week. Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. I love it when the pace picks up in stanza two ; and the gospel of being outside : funny when so many services, including the one I just came back from, are conducted inside —

    1. Thanks John. I know that lots of services during Covid went outside. I’ve been curious how that went. Did anyone continue having services outside? Seems like a good idea to me.
