  1. it’s kind of amazing to see kids playing in war ravaged areas. it’s like they’re programmed to have fun. The moon drought “overflowing with rivers that are dreams” had me thinking of those heliotropic plants which lean towards the sun – veggy romantics I guess like those kids and endless fun…..dogs too.

I like that you’re from Buffalo, the four seasons discovered in new ways in your poetry, that scarlet dusk in all seasons. I stare at the horizon every once in a while and sunsets barely differ from season to season though in summer, we seem to get more of those cauliflower looking clouds. which do wonders for sunsets.

I get the sense that the answer to “Can a river ever find footing?” is no because ice is bottomless and ice is water and like Gary Snyder writes – MOUNTAINS AND RIVERS WITHOUT END…..or maybe I’m taking it too literally? But it’s the crows who said it and they’re the smartest knowing it’s not ABSOLUTE vodka, but then again crows aren’t known as big vodka drinkers….I’m looking out the window now, snow falling but looking like rain and still the “bare winter boughs.” Gonna have to shovel today and it looks wet and heavy so I remind myself to shovel in layers, to save my back, and to not have a heart attack.

    1. Thanks Steve. I don’t think a river ever finds footing, and it’s kinda ironic a lighted match would ask…seeing a flame is like a river in that it is always in motion. Kids are resilient. I think we could learn from that resilience. They haven’t been able to get to absolute zero yet, and so ice does seem to be bottomless, and it sure feels that way on frigid winter days. And who better then the crows who stay all winter, to feel that chill in their bones. The Sabres are doing amazing. They are on an historic run. And all but set to make the playoffs. Time soon to grow by playoff beard. I love that hockey tradition.

      1. Great news about the Sabres. This is probably my favorite time of year with baseball getting underway and basketball and hickey heating up…..and now I’m in a worm hole about lighted matches and rivers and what do you mean by “they haven’t been able to to get to absolute zero?”

      2. Scientists haven’t been able to lower the temp to absolute zero. They come really close, but aren’t there yet. Not even sure it’s possible. I agree…great time of the year for sports.
