This Ditty

A green moon, said the June bees. And August
For a soul, agreed September. The obituary read,
It rained all day the first day of summer.

A moth is a solitary word and of the stars. Said July,
This ditty of a cosmos. The obituary read,
On the longest day of the year we say goodbye.

Under the long blue sky, we read out loud
Our futures. And though I have already
Forgotten what was said, October remembers.
And we hope for those who are gone this is true too.

  1. they beat us up those months. i feel like a damn slab of clay at the mercy of all the ways you describe the months and has me eager for autumn and october remembering. i’m not a big fan of summer. i always feel like i should be doing more but i just don’t feel like doing anything. just dropping anchor but that might be old age, but i do walk more in winter i think? i should keep track off all that’s happening.

    1. This week has been tough with the heat. We’re just not use to it. But I do love summer the best. Though every October, with that first cool breeze, I do feel refreshed and willing to start the next chapter/season.

      1. i’m at my girlfriend’s place and she has ac so i’m living inside and seldom even bother going outside, just to buy some beer. and at my apartment i live in a basement and have two dehumidifiers and both also blow air out so it’s a cool summer for me and yeah, i feel lucky like i won the lottery….no i’m just kidding, but i wouldn’t really want anything different in my life if i won a million dollars. i usually like summer like I know you do. i mean in the past, i loved working up a sweat, mostly playing basketball or just wandering through tall grasses and along the tracks, but now i’m in to the cold. our bodies, our minds, the whole damn thing we are aware of is bizarre.

      2. With how hot it was this week, I don’t blame you for staying inside as much as possible. I ride my bike to work, and wow, getting home I was drenched in sweat. Glad it’s cooking down a bit. If I won a million dollars, I wouldn’t do anything different either. Just not work. And could spend more time walking and writing.

  2. The oracle is one whose proclamation flies true, and strikes accurately. It is known. And October remembers….

Moth, July, Obituary, listening to the long blue sky on the highest peak of summer. Solstice remembers.

    1. Thanks, Holly. The seasons are such a part of us, and the transitions they propel in us. I had William Blake in my head when I wrote this, “In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.”

    1. Thanks, Ron. I agree. I think I remember some physicist saying the universe doesn’t lose information. What that means for us, I’m not sure. But I like to think memories remain.
