Lifting verses improves nomenclature

Summer Storm

Time is no wheel
It is the road the wind

Time doesn’t spin
It vexes, excites till it is calm again

Time doesn’t even exist
Yet carries the ages

Shitty Job

Admittedly the sky was blue
When I left you

The sun the orb of orbs
A gigantic yellow tongue

The green fields poured
Into my heart

The horizon slapped my back
In comradery

The day brimmed
Overflowed into my gait

Softly the stars honored
The way

  1. I like the juxtaposition in the third poem, Bob, between the idea of leaving and pleasant conditions. A slap I the face for pathetic fallacy!

Second is my favourite, though. Lovely concept of time – and one we’d like to ignore.

    1. Thanks, Chris! I think the third poem does juxtapose a shitty situation (job) you are in, and a beautiful day encouraging you to leave. Time…that’s one we will always struggle to get our heads wrapped around.

  2. that first line is BAM! “lifting verses” followed by a string of courage if you ask me, leaving someone and getting on with it and in your poem’s case, what revelations hit you! Great work!

    1. Thanks, Steve! Glad you liked the humor. In the third poem I was thinking about leaving a shitty job, but it can apply someone too. Heck, any situation. Even skipping school for the day to enjoy a day to yourself. Which any healthy kid should do. I did…probably a few too many.

      1. ooops, yeah, i just assumed it was a love break up, but the shitty job….oh yes, those are tough. i know they say, get a new job before quitting, but sometimes it’s too much

      2. i guess the hopeful attitude is one door closes, another opens, but then again, when i consider how far some people fall, it makes me wonder if there is no bottom, a direction that can jumpstart unexpectedly.

  3. “Shitty Job”: great title. Take this job & shove it.

I’ve never tried to write poems this short and spare, this austere. I’ve never had the courage to write something this minimalist, like a Shaker chair. That’s why I have a case of logorrhea.

    1. Haha, logorrhea….that’s a good one. I often envy Kenneth Koch his wordy poems. And often read him before writing for wordy inspiration. Maybe I had Dolly Parton in mind with shitty job. I did rewatch 9 to 5 sometime last year. Still holds up as a good movie.
