I found you standing on a chair. The following day, I found
You standing on a table. Your hair unbuttoned,
Except for a few clouds above the curlicues of your thoughts.
Delighted, you built imaginary cities on the horizon.
It was how you closed your eyes
That made the darkness so beautiful.
I found you on the roof branching like a profound fever
Into dreams, into the weather, arabesque in a thrift store cape.
Avidly, in a diving contest with the last of the afternoon.
And how the seasons translate the unsayable.
We go into business selling the open fields to the rain.
Fantastic Bob! There’s something so wonderful about getting high off another person like they are a drug or magic or something….”you built imaginary cities on the horizon” reminds me of Quixote’s vision, the same one that Panza eventually inherited.

Thanks so much Steve. I agree, a friend/muse that just lifts you up. Speaking of friendship, Quixote an Sancho are, to me, the greatest friendship of all time. And now that you bring it up, imaginary cities reminds me of Quixote’s descriptions of Dulcinea’s castle.

Wow. That is fantastic to hear! So glad you liked this one so much. It took a few days to finish, but mostly I wrote it in one sitting. Thank you!

Thanks John! As strange as this one was, I felt it was oddly accessible. So glad you liked it .

Wow! I absolutely love this Bob, every single line. You know I’m a big fan in any case (albeit somewhat absent of late) but man this has to be one of my favourites.

Wondrous and surreal images. I like the ascending from chair to table to roof, then the descending with the diving contest. I loved the imaginary cities creation. The title of the poem had me scratching my head. But I hope the new business does well 🙂

Thanks Dave. I’m really glad you liked it. As for the the title, after deciding to sell open fields to the rain, turns out this wasn’t much of a money maker. Haha. So I guess it’s being penniless for now.
