And if I have spent my certainties, I have
Also pooled my uncertainties, a body
Meandered into a wayward dignity.
All time is of a length, and all lengths are relative,
And lacking an absolute foothold, proclaims
Feet everywhere.
And if I have spent my certainties, I have
Also pooled my uncertainties, a body
Meandered into a wayward dignity.
All time is of a length, and all lengths are relative,
And lacking an absolute foothold, proclaims
Feet everywhere.
I think if certainties and uncertainties had weight, my scales increasingly tip towards the latter.

Me too. Maybe a little bit of wisdom is getting comfortable with the uncertainties.

There’s bound to be some along the way. Can’t plan for everything. I certainly didn’t expect for things to be as they are now twenty years ago…

I’m in the same boat. If asked 20 years ago what I thought I’d be doing now, I certainly wouldn’t have expected this.

it is good to be a little untethered: that way we get to experience the vagaries of life on the road — and we are all on that road, ‘lacking an absolute foothold —

Excellent comment John. I agree, it’s good to be a little untethered on the road, to experience the vagaries.

Uncertainties are the only certainties I know 🙂

Amazing what words can do. As I was reading this, it was like I could feel the hinges come off and for a moment, I felt like traveling again, ideally to Japan.

Thanks Steve. If I ever traveled again it would be to Japan. And this may sound silly, but my 10 year and I love to watch Godzilla movies.

I’ll join you and your 10-year old for a Godzilla marathon any day! I love them. I’m immediately reminded of the Zappa tune Cheepness.

Haha. Who doesn’t like cheepnis. That’s great. I love those old sci-fi / monster movies too. As a kid I couldn’t get a enough of them. I don’t know if you’ve seen Godzilla Minus One. But it’s really, really good.

Godzilla Minus One. I just put it on my list. Thanks. I think I read somewhere that Godzilla was originally created as a representation of fear of nuclear bomb destruction. If that’s the case, I wonder if that fear was before the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

The first Godzilla movie deals with that. That’s a real good one too. And not campy.

Thanks for the heads up. I just signed up for internet archive. It’s free and filled with tons of movies and books online. Hopefully, the first Godzilla movie is there.

Let me know what you think. I believe there is a line that says, Godzilla was forged in the flames of the atomic bomb.

No. That’s the American version of the first movie. Frankly not that good.

Thank you, Diana. I agree, and too much of either usually ends up for the worse.

I love this. “Proclaims feet everywhere” is a perfect culmination to this poem. Uncertainty is often where we find unexpected rewards.
